A few weeks ago I found myself in a situation where it was hard for me to keep my cool. I feel a little ashamed about the whole thing, but I definitely learned something from it!
I took a dance class at a new studio and the girl behind me kept coming up to me asking if I could move forward while giving me a slight physical nudge. She was really nice about it, and what she was asking made sense, as she didn’t have much space. But for some reason this really got under my skin!
While I responded with a smile and did as she instructed, on the inside all I wanted to do was give her the stink eye and tell her I’m giving her as much room as I can, as the instructor was right in front of me.
As I danced my way through the class I was having a hard time focusing because I was trying to figure out why this bothered me so much!
I ended up realizing quite a few things and I really wanted to share them with you in this weeks video. I hope this helps any time you feel your blood start to boil!
How I Keep My Cool
When you feel yourself getting annoyed or frustrated, take a minute and check in with yourself.
Ask yourself these really key questions:
- What emotion am I feeling right now?
- What exactly triggered this emotion?
- Why does that bother me so much?
- Am I making any assumptions here?
- How true are the thoughts I’m having?
Taking yourself through this line of questioning really does help! You end up being able to let go of thoughts and feelings you didn’t even realize were there before. It’s so easy for us to become consumed by the emotion and react without thinking. This can sometimes make the situation even worse. When you understand yourself more you have the ability to keep you cool and not over react. At the end of the day this is going to make YOU feel better.
